More soccer fields are coming to KELOLAND. A new 22-field soccer complex is in the works between Sioux Falls and Tea. Tempo Soccer Club has acquired the 22 acres of land just north of Tea.
Tempo Soccer Club of Tea made its debut in 2011 with more than 80 kids participating in its programs. Now, with more than 300 taking part throughout the year, Tempo Vice President Jason Hall says the group is looking for a home of its own.
"We've seen it grow tremendously. It's going to be a lot of growing pains but we're excited to see where we can go with it," Hall said.
Plans call for a total of 22 fields on a piece of land a Tea family helped the club acquire. Currently, Tempo trains its soccer athletes in a variety of locations including the Avera Sports Institute.
"We've had to turn away kids at some levels of our programs and we've known that we need to expand and we need to have our own spot. This is a great opportunity to grow our numbers and have a spot for kids to play soccer," Hall said.
A lot of fundraising is needed to get the project rolling. Once the money is in place, Hall says the facility will be a great spot for kids ages five and up to hone their skills.
"We have lofty goals everywhere from $2 million down to $150,000 to get us breaking some ground and moving some dirt. We anticipate or hope to have a lot of the areas turfed so we can utilize the playing field throughout much more of the season," Hall said.
Hall says the Tempo Soccer Club would like to begin using some fields in August.
