Temperatures Are Rising Across KELOLAND

July 4, 2014, 6:10 PM by Grant Smith

Temperatures Are Rising Across KELOLAND

It is going to be a hot weekend for parts of KELOLAND. A surface high pressure to the east will shove warm air into the South Dakota region and before the weekend is over, we could see some areas reach the century mark. But for some areas of KELOLAND, 100s in early July is a normal event.

In fact central KELOLAND, on average sees their first 100 degree day on July 4th. The Sioux Falls and Aberdeen areas, on average, see their first 100 degree day near the middle of July, and Rapid City area usually sees their first 100 degree day on July 11th.

But going back to the earliest records, some parts of KELOLAND have seen their first 100 degree day of the season as early as May.

So this weekend, make sure to stay cool as temperatures approach that 100 degree mark and the southerly winds will be adding moisture so humidity will be a factor. Good news, this heat wave won't last long as the next work week, KELOLAND will be back into the low 80s.
