MADISON, SD -
Madison Police have released a description of the suspected gunman and a vehicle possibly tied to a deadly shooting.
They're asking the public to watch for a maroon, four-door sedan driven by a white man. That man is described as being 50 to 60 years old, 5'8" to 6' tall with a medium build. He may be wearing glasses and a ball cap.
The person is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is urged to call the Madison Police Department at 605-256-7531.
The shooting happened Tuesday around 8:00 p.m. near the intersection of 5th Street and Egan Avenue. That's only a block from the Dakota State University Campus, which was put on lockdown overnight. That lockdown has since been lifted. Classes for Wednesday will be held as scheduled.
Madison Central School District buildings are on lockdown Wednesday, with classes being held. The nearby Oldham-Ramona School District is also on lockdown as a precaution because some staff had concerns. Students will still go outside for recess, but the district plans to have extra staff outside as well.
The Madison Police Chief has confirmed one person is dead, but the victim's name has not been released.
