Suspect Shot By SD Officers Pleads Not Guilty

Suspect Shot By SD Officers Pleads Not Guilty
RAPID CITY, SD -

A man shot by law officers following a chase in southwestern South Dakota last year has pleaded not guilty to several charges.

Forty-three-year-old Travis Ross is charged with aggravated assault on law officers, being a felon in possession of a firearm, aggravated eluding and second-offense driving under the influence. He could face a total of more than 200 years in prison if convicted.

Authorities say officers chased Ross on June 17, 2013, and shot him four times near New Underwood when he brandished a rifle. Ross, who survived the shooting, had an active warrant at the time for violating parole on a felony drunken driving conviction.

Attorney General Marty Jackley later concluded the three officers who shot Ross were justified in doing so.
