A man accused of assaulting and killing another man is waiting for a psychiatric evaluation before his case proceeds.
57-year-old Darwin Abel Jans has been charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault in the death of Larry D. Goodman. Police say James assaulted Goodman in September and Goodman died weeks later in a hospital.
Jans' attorney told a judge on Friday that her client is scheduled to begin his psychiatric evaluation next week. She asked for a continuance in the case, which the state did not object to. The next hearing is scheduled for April 12.
Jans is being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
A second-degree murder charge carries a maximum penalty of life in prison and a $50,000 fine.
