An Eagle Butte man is scheduled to enter a plea to a state attempted murder charge stemming from a standoff with law officers last October.
Twenty-seven-year-old Jason Garreau was due in court Thursday afternoon. Court documents indicate Garreau has agreed to plead guilty to one state count in exchange for a 20-year sentence. He initially was charged with two counts.
Authorities allege Garreau held officers at bay for almost nine hours Oct. 31 at a Pierre mobile home and injured two city police officers in an exchange of gunfire.
Garreau already has pleaded guilty to federal charges stemming from the incident and is to be sentenced in June. Several charges were dismissed, including some related to a shootout in Hyde County in which Garreau's cousin was killed.
