Suspect In Brookings Rapes Pleads Not Guilty

A man accused in a string of sexual assaults that rattled the city of Brookings is headed to trial.
Chris Jones pleaded not guilty Friday to five counts of second-degree rape, two counts of first-degree robbery and one count each of kidnapping and attempted robbery. He was indicted last month by a Brookings County grand jury.
During Friday's court hearing, a trial was set for October 4. Jones is accused in three sexual assaults that happened over a three-week period in March and April on and off the South Dakota State University campus.
Jones, who recently moved to Brookings from Omaha, Nebraska, is being held on $250,000 cash bond.
