The Rapid City Police Department says a man who fired at officers during an early morning traffic stop was shot and killed.
Authorities say officers stopped an all-terrain vehicle early Thursday, and the man fired "several" rounds. Officers returned fire, and the suspect died at the scene. Attorney General Marty Jackley identified him as 35-year-old Harold Murphy.
No officers were injured.
Police planned a midmorning news conference to release more details.
Jackley says the state Division of Criminal Investigation will look into the shooting and issue a report within about 30 days.
