Super Bowl HDTV Deals

January 24, 2013, 9:50 PM by Angela Kennecke

Super Bowl HDTV Deals
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

If you're looking to update your TV to a big screen in time for the big game, prices are the best they've ever been for 50" and 60" flat screens.

Those big screen TVs used to be out of reach for most people, but now the screens are getting even bigger and the prices are smaller.

"I know a year or two ago, we bought that other one and they're quite a bit cheaper now than they were then," customer Larry Hauglid said.

"The price point has dropped significantly over the last two to five years. Four years ago a 32” television was about $1,200. Today you're buying it for about $300," Tom Johnson of Karl's said.

A 60" HDTV will typically run between $900 and $1,000.  But in some cases, they've even dropped below that.

"The 60” television you're going to see a little lower. They're not going to be the LGs, not the Sony brands, not going to be the Samsungs, a lower tiered," Johnson said.

And what about that hot trend from a couple of years ago: the 3D TV? Those have also dropped to their lowest price ever, running around $800 for a 55 inch flat screen.

"I don't think 3D took off the way it was supposed to. The rocket went up, but it's still circulating," Johnson said.

And the Ultra High Definition or 4K HDTV has four times the resolution with an equally high price tag.

"But it has a picture that is unbelievable and phenomenal. Right now it's kind of like 3D was a couple of years ago. There's not a lot of content, but it will grow," Johnson said.

One of these is priced at $17,000 and was just sold to a buyer in the Black Hills.

But the new technology is making way for plenty of deals on what's been around for a few years. And if you want that new TV delivered before the big game, you'll need to act fast.
