Sunday Noise Disturbance Leads To Two Drug Arrests

Sunday Noise Disturbance Leads To Two Drug Arrests
Vandy Khao-On | Det Khao-On

Two men are in custody on drug-related charges after Sioux Falls Police were called to a house party Sunday morning.

Det Khao-On and Vandy Khao-On face several drug-related charges after Sioux Falls Police officers were called about noise coming from a party on East Klondike Trail shortly after midnight on Sunday.

"As officers were walking up, they smelled marijuana in the air. They saw one person walk out," Sioux Falls Police Information Officer Sam Clemens said.

That person was Det Khao-On, carrying a red backpack. As soon as he saw officers arrive, he fled back into the party.

"As the officers were arresting him, our suspect reached into his pocket and threw out a large amount of cash on the ground, and people in the yard started running up and grabbing that cash," Clemens said.

Officers found over $5,000 on Det Khao-On. The red backpack was quickly taken by another person, Vandy Khao-On.

"Other people were interfering with the officers. We had somebody else grab that backpack and took off running," Clemens said.

Vandy Khao-On was soon arrested as well, and officers found $3,000 on him. Inside the red backpack was over one pound of marijuana.

"Most of the marijuana we find is maybe a couple of grams, most of it is smaller sized. So, to have over a pound of marijuana total that's a pretty good chunk," Clemens said.

Both men now face charges of possession of a half-pound to a pound of marijuana, possession with the intent to distribute and fleeing and obstruction. If found guilty, they both could face up to 15 years in prison and $30,000 in fines.

Both Det and Vandy Khao-On are being held on $7,500 bond and will have a preliminary hearing in their cases scheduled in 15 days.
