The 2012 Summit League Tournament in Sioux Falls set a couple attendance records for the series of college basketball games.
The league says a total of 40,269 fans attended the 14 games over four days at the Sioux Falls Arena; a new record for the league's tournament by nearly 6,000 people. The previous record of 34,681 was set in 2009, which was the first year the Sioux Falls Arena hosted the event.
The women's games also collectively set a league tournament attendance record of 17,846 people. The championship game alone between South Dakota State University and UMKC brought in 5,153 fans, the third-highest in the league's history. The Sioux Falls Arena has hosted the league's four most attended women's tournaments.
The men's championship game between South Dakota State University and Western Illinois University brought in a crowd of 6,526 people. It was the biggest crowd since 1994 when the title game drew 8,322 fans in suburban Chicago.
