The Summit League tournament has another two-year contract in Sioux Falls. But out-of-state visitors are hoping it can stay in the city long-term once a new events center is built.
The new building will have approximately 12,000 seats, nearly twice the size of the current Arena. And with the tournament continuing to grow, visitors hope that the new facility can be the Summit League's permanent home.
"I can't imagine how you could fit in 6,000 rowdy Bison, Yotes, Rabbit fans and you need more seating eventually because this place is growing and it's becoming an event. You know it's not like volleyball or baseball or softball, it's a big thing," Ian Furness said.
Construction on the new events center will begin this summer with the facility expected to be complete by the fall of 2014.
