Study Shows Two SD Counties Have High Smoking Rates

A new national study says fewer Americans are lighting up, but two South Dakota counties are bucking that trend.

Researchers at the University of Washington say nearly 38-percent of the men in Shannon County, South Dakota, smoke. That's the fourth-highest rate in the nation.

When it comes to women, South Dakota has two counties that made the top ten. 35-percent of women in Buffalo County smoke and 34-percent of women in Shannon County smoke.

The report says rates are falling in a lot of South Dakota counties, but overall, the state is still home to one of the nation's highest smoking rates.

Take a look at the study online.
