Students Spend Another Night Away From Dorms

Students Spend Another Night Away From Dorms

Nearly 300 University of South Dakota students will spend another night in hotels after a dormitory flood late Monday night.

University officials say repair crews are making progress, but once night falls the building will once again be locked up tight.

Students have had dorm access to Coyote Village all day during daylight hours, but that stopped just after 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

University officials say they will put up 280 students of the 500 housed there in three separate Vermillion hotels. They are also busing students to and from campus and providing food for the flooded out dorm residents too.

A pipe burst on Monday night in Coyote Village forcing the closure. Information released on Wednesday says the repair was going more smoothly and the pipe was fixed, but electrical work is what is holding up the process.

The school says College Village will reopen to students at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday.
