Students Remember 9/11 With Freedom Walk

September 11, 2012, 6:36 PM by Derek Olson

BOX ELDER, SD -

It was eleven years ago that America was attacked by terrorists in New York and Washington, D.C.

To honor those lost in the 9/11 attacks and teach students about how that day shaped the world we know, students in Box Elder participated in the Freedom Walk.  Shortly after 1 p.m., the Douglas school district's 2,600 students and more than 400 staff marched in a procession to an assembly at the school's stadium.

"It's wonderful that my children learned about this and we have the Patriot Day to help us learn.  They've learned a lot today and I hope they tell their parents," Badger Clark First Grade Teacher Kathy Rose said.

Many of the students hadn't yet been born at the time of the attack.  Box Elder is also home to Ellsworth Air Force Base.
