With four new residential halls and a new addition to the Student Union, some students feel like they are walking on a brand new campus at South Dakota State University.
"The old-time saying was, 'it is a great day to be a Jackrabbit,' but it truly is an exciting time to be a student on campus," SDSU student Matilyn Kerr.
Kerr says this year is different. With the brand new addition to the Student Union and the four new dorm rooms, things at the SDSU campus are bright this year.
"We are all very used to the standard market place in the Union, quick lines to get through and I think this is going to be really awesome place for students to grab a quick bite to eat," Kerr said.
The new Student Union addition has been in the works for about two years now. SDSU officials say this new space is meant to be a great beckon for students when they arrive on campus.
But, it was not just the University that helped plan this project; students held an influential role by helping pick out furniture and designs.
"Students have had an active voice in this project from the very beginning and that is what we aspire for every year with the new students coming in and out current students," Executive Director of the Student Union Jennifer Novotny said.
From the new food joints, new resident halls, to the new Center for Student Engagement, these students say this campus is taking a step in the right direction.
"I think students are going to like the different feel," Kerr said.
This addition cost $7.2 million and put 350 extra seats inside the students union.
