Students Make Noise For A Good Cause

Students Make Noise For A Good Cause

The bleachers at Journey Elementary School were roaring as the international traveling group STOMP rocked the gymnasium.

The group is known for their high energy performances, and use of unusual instruments.

"We make music with brooms, poles, trash cans, radiator hoses, the kitchen sink. Everything, everything is included. It's a fun percussive, dance, comedy. There's everything," said STOMP member Andre Fernandez.

The young audience stomped and clapped right a long with the performances. And for many of the kids, the best parts were the noisiest.

"When they did all the trash cans and those big round things, that was pretty cool," said Journey Elementary student Cooper McKenna.

The group not only gave the kids an exciting show, but they also helped the students hand over $1,500 to Feeding South Dakota. Cooper says he's glad the money is going to a good cause.

"Because people who don't have food, you're helping them," said Cooper.

The STOMP crew says they are glad to entertain their audience, but they also hope to teach them a few things too.

"It inspires the kids to not just think that they have to play a regular instrument. They can turn over their trash can upside down and they've got a bass. Or they can bring something metal and they have a snare. You can find music in everything," said Fernandez.

According to Feeding South Dakota, Wednesday's donation is enough to pay for 375 meals.
