Storm's Colin Steen Pursues Other Opportunities

July 13, 2009, 5:58 PM by Don Jorgensen

Storm's Colin Steen Pursues Other Opportunities

The winds of change are blowing through the Sioux Falls Storm.

Two days after winning its final football game of the season, soon-to-be owner Todd Tryon will be making some changes to the front office.

Colin Steen, who's been with the Storm for eight years, most of that time as President and General Manager, will be stepping down to pursue other opportunities, but  Tryon says Steen will still be a valuable asset to the organization.

"As far as Colin Steen goes, he's done a great job the last seven to eight years and I know he's looking to moving on. He adds a lot of value just from his experience, I do look at keeping him on as kind of a consultant to some standpoint as we make our transition," Todd Tryon said.

Tryon says he'll take over GM responsibilities, but also would like to give coach Kurtiss Riggs a bigger role in some of the day-to-day decision making.

"There's been such a gap with our front office and our coaching staff, there should be no reason for that," Tryon said.

The Storm's been riddled with financial troubles. It owes the state more than $20,000 in unpaid sales taxes and was fined $10,000 by the league for violating worker's compensation laws. It also just recently lost a half million dollar lawsuit.

But Tryon is hoping for new beginnings with some new faces.

"I have brought in a couple of new people and I try to surround my self with some good people, we're putting a board of directors together and bringing in some people from that standpoint, that's kind of volunteer, but that's really going to help us get our product where it should be," Tryon said.

The Storm won its final game of the season Saturday night, which Tryon says was the start of something good.

"Our number one goal was to get that game played and we played and it ended on a great note and kind of closed an era and today starts a new era, and we've put a checklist together and everyday checking things off it," Tryon said.

The Storm is also moving its office from its current location to south Minnesota Avenue by Prairie Green Golf Course.
