Storm Dumps Eight Inches Of Rain On Worthing

June 16, 2014, 10:27 PM by Ben Dunsmoor

Storm Dumps Eight Inches Of Rain On Worthing

Lincoln County emergency officials are advising no travel in the county Monday night. Heavy rain has flooded several areas and water is covering highways and washing out roads.

In Worthing, homes and businesses are being flooded. It started around 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon and within the first five hours, the storm had dumped nearly eight inches of rain on the little Lincoln County town.

"It came up probably within two hours and it filled the ditch and started creeping up toward the building," Worthing landscaper Cole Weller said.

"We've got seven and three-quarter inches of rain," Worthing resident Christina Eitreim said.

Homes were surrounded by water and city crews were working to pump out ditches Monday night.

"It started this afternoon when it started raining and I watched the water rise through the ditch and now it's almost to the building," Weller said.

The sidewalk in front of Weller’s business turned into a canal for kayaking, but Weller says this storm has been anything but fun.

"We bought all the sandbags we could buy. I don't know how many it was but hopefully it's enough to keep the water out," Weller said.

Some residents have been lucky and have kept the water out, but they are the few who have managed to stay dry.

"Our neighbors behind us unfortunately got water in their basement and our day care is closed tomorrow because they got water too," Eitreim said.

A familiar story about a severe June rainstorm in this small Lincoln County town.

"This is the first time we've seen the water this high. Hopefully we don't see it again," Weller said.

The Lincoln County Emergency Manager says there are several flooded basements in the county and they are calling for more roadblocks for those flooded roads.
