Storm Continues To Chase Perfection

June 6, 2014, 10:46 PM by Elliot Nathan

Storm Continues To Chase Perfection
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

The Sioux Falls Storm is chasing the second four-peat in franchise history, and has its sites set on a 40th consecutive home win.  The playoffs are only weeks away, and KELOLAND's Elliot Nathan has more on the Storm's chase of perfection.

The Pursuit of Perfection. The Sioux Falls Storm are unblemished on the season with a 12-0 record, and are chasing their fourth straight IFL title. And although the record shows no dents, the path isn't that clear. Their coach is proud of the perseverance through early season adversity.

"Well I think we have had some ups and downs, but that's natural in the course of a 14 game season. You log a ton of miles and it's going to have an effect on the team. However, the thing they've done really well is persevered throughout that and got the win," Storm head coach Kurtiss Riggs said.

But as they say every time they brake the huddle, the Storm have continued to get better. The three-time IFL MVP and a four-time IFL champion Chris Dixon know progress when he sees it, and as of late feel the Storm are becoming more consistent.

"But lately, as we have got into this trend of playing ever week, we've been progressing. I think every week we have got better, which I'm really proud of," Dixon said.

Riggs agrees with CD three, and as the Storm gear up for the end of the regular season, coach is most pleased with the identity that his defense has taken as of late.

"I think the last few game we've really started to form an identity as a physical football team. If you can play physical inside the 50x28 yard walls their is just nowhere for anyone to go," Riggs said.

Which there hasn't been. The Storm are tops in the IFL on D, allowing just under 206 yards per game, and continue to improve. Stats aside, in the end it's all about the hardware. Perfection or not, the goal since day once hasn't changed.

"The Ultimate goal when you become a member of the Sioux Falls storm is not to win the conference or anything else. The ultimate goal is to win the the championship. It's always been championship or bust since I've been here and we've never looked at anything else and that's not going to change. We're not running from perfection. We want that," Dixon said.

The Storm closes the home portion of its regular season schedule Saturday night, against Texas.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05.
