Storm Center Update-Wednesday AM

January 23, 2013, 7:16 AM by Brian Karstens

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Another cold front is sliding south today and temperatures will be steady or falling in northeastern SD as a result.  Even Sioux Falls will hold in the mid teens this afternoon with partly cloudy skies, with temperatures starting to fall toward the end of the day.  Some fog could develop in Rapid City where highs will be in the mid 20s.

A wind chill advisory has been posted for tonight in northern and northeastern SD for wind chills of -15 to -25.  Sioux Falls and Aberdeen will both be well below zero overnight.  It will be foggy as well in the west where temperatures will hold in the teens for Rapid City.

Tomorrow starts the transition toward warmer weather in the west with highs returning to the 40s in Rapid City.  Stronger south winds will lead to a cold day in eastern KELOLAND with highs in the teens.  Another arctic front will push through KELOLAND on Friday with falling temperatures and winds switching back to the northwest during the day.  Friday could start in the teens, but end up below zero by the end of the afternoon in the northeast.

Everybody should be warmer this weekend, especially by Sunday.  There will be more wind from the west, but highs will be back in the 30s and 40s by early next week.  There could be some accumulating snow across parts of the region by Tuesday, a trend we’ll keep an eye on the next few days.
