SIOUX FALLS, SD -
It’s another chilly morning in KELOLAND with many areas in the single digits above zero. Temperatures will be warming as a warm front develops in western SD this afternoon. This front could lead to areas of snowfall, mainly across the west late this afternoon. Highs will range from the mid 30s in Rapid City to lower 20s in Aberdeen.
Winds will increase late today and tonight from the southwest and temperatures will be rising in many areas overnight. This will lead to a warmer day tomorrow with highs ranging from the lower 30s in Aberdeen to the upper 40s in Rapid City. Winds will be strong at times with gusts near 40 in Rapid City from the northwest. Sioux Falls will have breezy conditions with west winds at 15-25mph.
Mild weather will continue Thursday and Friday with warmer numbers likely returning on Friday, close to 40 in Sioux Falls. Enjoy the warmer weather because changes are in store for the weekend.
A strong cold front will dive south sometime on Saturday. As we monitor the timing on the front, a sharp drop in temperature can be expected along with bitterly cold winds. This will usher in some of the coldest air of the season. Highs in some areas of the north and northeast may stay below zero early next week. Some light snow may accompany the colder air, but major snow is not forecast at this time.
