Storm Center Update-Tuesday AM

October 9, 2012, 7:15 AM by Brian Karstens

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Areas of light rain have developed this morning, mainly in southern and western KELOLAND.  The showers and sprinkles will slide to the south by this afternoon, but expect plenty of wind for much of the day.

It will be much cooler with highs in the lower 50s in most areas.  Fire danger will still be high, but not as bad as yesterday.

Clear skies are expected tonight with lows in the lower 20s in the east and near 30 in Rapid City.  Those clear skies will translate into sunny conditions tomorrow with warmer 60s in the forecast.  That will contribute to higher fire danger too, so be careful as winds turn to the southwest.  We’ll see one more cold front Wednesday night and Thursday with some slight cooling in the forecast.

Our attention will then turn to the weekend.  We have good agreement among the various models that a low pressure system will pull to the northeast on Saturday.  Rain will be likely in southern and eastern KELOLAND and even some thunderstorms will be possible.  The storm prediction center is already talking about severe weather in portions of the southeast, so stay tuned for more that later in the week, especially in NW IA.

Rain chances will exit KELOLAND by Sunday, but another system could affect the area by late Monday into Tuesday.
