Storm Center Update-Thursday AM

January 17, 2013, 7:07 AM by Brian Karstens

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

A cold front has backed into KELOLAND with temperatures much colder in western MN compared to western SD.  It still appears temperatures will rebound into the lower 30s in Sioux Falls, with lower 20s today in Aberdeen.  Rapid City will be warmer in the mid 40s.  A few clouds will continue to stream in from the north, but no precipitation is forecast today.

That same cold front which is parked west of Sioux Falls will turn into a warm front tonight, delivering a boost to the temperature on Friday.  In fact, tomorrow could be the warmest day of the month so far in Sioux Falls with highs around 45.  Rapid City will be in the 50s, with mid 40s in Pierre,

Get ready for a change starting Saturday as an arctic front heads south.  Temperatures will still be mild in the south to start the weekend, but temperatures will fall late Saturday afternoon, with a bigger drop in temperatures late Sunday with a second cold front.  That one will bring subzero wind chills in much of KELOLAND.  By Monday morning, wind chills could drop to -30 and air temperatures will be near -22 in Aberdeen.  The cold will be short-lived with a rebound in temperatures by the middle of next week into the 20s and 30s.
