Storm Center Update-Thursday AM

January 3, 2013, 6:18 AM by Brian Karstens

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Morning clouds have started to clear out in western SD and that trend should continue in many areas of KELOLAND today.  Highs will be cooler in the east with mid to upper teens in the east, with mid 30s likely around Rapid City.  Blowing snow from yesterday has left roads still partially snow covered, so be aware of that, especially in the southwest.

Winds will relax tonight in most areas, except along the Buffalo ridge and also in the Summit area.  Be aware of some potential for blowing snow in these areas overnight.  Warmer air will be arriving tomorrow and this trend will be very evident in the west where highs in the mid 40s are likely in Rapid City.  Sioux Falls won’t be that warm, but highs will rebound to near 30.

Another cold front will dive south on Saturday.  That will trim a few degrees on the highs and northwest winds could get gusty once again, especially West River.  Some flurries could also accompany this front.

Looking ahead to next week, warmer 30s and 40s are likely.  There could be a system to our south on Tuesday and Wednesday, but at this time, no immediate storms are in the 7-day forecast.
