Storm Center Update-Thursday AM

December 6, 2012, 6:21 AM by Brian Karstens

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

We are tracking areas of light rain this morning on KELOLAND Live Doppler HD.  Most of the activity is drifting into the northern IA.  Light precipitation will continue in the Black Hills with a 20% chance of light snow and rain today.  Northwest winds are also developing behind the cold front and highs today will generally be in the 40s.  Our attention will quickly turn of snow developing tonight in western KELOLAND.

Areas of snow will be likely and will spread East River after midnight.  As the snow works its way from west to east, general amount of 1 to 3 inches will be likely during the day Friday. Some locally heavier amounts will be possible along a line from Faith to Wessington Springs.   Snow will be coming to an end Friday evening as colder air settles in for the weekend.  High temperatures by Saturday will be in the upper 20s to lower 30s.

Another reinforcing shot of colder air will arrive on Sunday bringing with it more chances of snow mainly in eastern KELOLAND.  The new model runs are showing more snow potential in northeast KELOLAND again, so I would keep a close eye on future forecasts as this system continues to be a challenge to forecast.  Most areas will be quite chilly by Sunday night into Monday with Monday’s highs in the teens and 20s.
