We have another quiet morning in KELOLAND with cool conditions in the east. A few spots like Sioux Falls have dropped into the low to mid 30s with light winds.

The dry air will warm up quickly today with temperatures rising into the upper 60s at noon and into the mid 70s late this afternoon with light winds.

While the weather looks quiet in eastern KELOLAND, a few showers are expected to develop along a stationary front in far western SD this afternoon.

This 30% chance of rain will cover the Rapid City, Spearfish, Hot Springs, and Buffalo region through tonight. FutureScan shows the track of the rain by mid afternoon in the west.

We wish this system would move east, but that looks unlikely at this time. The drought monitor continues to show exceptional to extreme drought in much of KELOLAND.

We’ll get an updated drought monitor today that will likely show steady or worsening conditions in the northern plains. No rain is in the 7 day forecast for Sioux Falls and the next “chance” of showers is not until next weekend.
