Storm Center Update-Monday AM

Areas of black ice and fog are creating many problems on the roads this morning in eastern KELOLAND.  Be careful and slow down on the roads.  The ground temperatures are still much below freezing, even though air temps are above freezing.  A dense fog advisory is in effect until noon across the east. 

The next headline is the snow and mixed precipitation developing in the west this morning, which will expand east during the day.  The freezing rain and snow threat will develop along and about 30-40 miles either side of line from Winner to Huron to Sisseton.  A winter weather advisory has been posted for the Brookings-Huron-Mitchell-Watertown-Sisseton areas starting at 6pm this evening for freezing rain, sleet, and snow…with a snow total of 2-4” by tomorrow afternoon.  Locally heavier totals will be possible in the center of this snow axis, something we’ll watch carefully through the day.

Temperature will start sliding Tuesday afternoon with the next arctic front arriving from the north.  Falling temps will continue on Wednesday and by Thursday, highs will struggle to get above zero in much of eastern KELOLAND.  It won’t be as cold in Rapid City, with highs there in the lower 20s. 

Warmer weather will return by the weekend with highs back in the 30s and 40s.
