Storm Center Update-Monday AM

January 7, 2013, 6:16 AM by Brian Karstens

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

We have a mild start to the day with temperatures already in the upper 20s to near 30s in many areas.  Strong winds overnight have diminished and temperatures will be mild this afternoon in the mid 30s in the east, with mid 40s in Rapid City.  Skies will be generally partly cloudy.

Stronger winds will develop in the northwest late tonight and temperatures will be rising in Rapid City by tomorrow morning.  A high wind watch has been posted for much of western and central SD tomorrow with winds of 25-50mph very common.  A few flurries or sprinkles will be possible in the east, but highs will remain mild in both Aberdeen and Sioux Falls in the mid 30s.  Winds will be gusty in the east as well, certainly something to watch by Tuesday afternoon.

Wednesday looks very mild across KELOLAND with temperatures just shy of 40 in Sioux Falls, with lower 50s in Rapid City.  As temperatures warm, there will be another storm system moving in from the south that could affect our southeastern counties with chances of rain or a little freezing rain Thursday.  That will depend on what time of day the system arrives, something to watch in the days ahead.

Much colder weather will arrive next weekend with a chance of snow.  We’ll keep a close eye on this system as it gets closer to KELOLAND.
