Snow continues to expand across KELOLAND this morning. A winter weather advisory has been posted for Pierre, Redfield, Huron, and Brookings today. We are expecting the heaviest snow mainly along Highway 14. A general 1 to 3 inches accumulation will be likely in Sioux Falls, with amounts closer to 1” in Aberdeen. High temperatures will be in the 30's with east winds at 5-15mph. Slow down to drive with care of the roads. The snow will come to an end across the east tonight.
Tomorrow, a second storm system will quickly develop from the north. This clipper system will produce a new band of snow developing in central SD Saturday morning, with areas of snow spreading east during the afternoon. The most intense snow will develop near Aberdeen through Saturday night, while snow will mix with rain showers near Sioux Falls.
A second area of snow will develop with the cold front Saturday night. Blowing snow will be likely Saturday night and the combination of today’s snow with new snow tomorrow will create poor travel in many areas Sunday. Temperatures will turn sharply colder into early next week with highs struggling to get out of the teens.
