Storm Center Update-Friday AM

October 12, 2012, 6:45 AM by Brian Karstens

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

It’s a chilly start out there this morning with temperatures dropping into the upper teens and lower 20s in many areas.  It won’t take long for temperatures to warm today and fire weather concerns will quickly return.

A red flag warning has been issued for much KELOLAND including Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, and Pierre.  Winds will be gusty from the south at 20-40mph.

Humidity levels will increase south of I-90 this afternoon and chances of rain will develop in Nebraska by this evening.   The rain chances will move northeast tonight with the best chances south and east of Sioux Falls.

Thunderstorms will be embedded in the general area of rain.  Those t-storms will produce locally .25-50” amounts through tomorrow morning.

Aberdeen, Pierre, and Rapid City will stand a chance of scattered showers late tonight, but much of the moisture will be caught by developing storms to our south.

A second round of rain is possible tomorrow, but again, much of it will be in our NW IA counties.  Some of those storms could even be severe during the afternoon.

Once the storm exits the area, Sunday will be dry and mild with highs mainly in the 60s.  A warming trend will be ahead by Monday and Tuesday with highs back into the 70s.  We’ll watch another cold front heading our way by late Tuesday and Wednesday with another chance of scattered showers.
