SIOUX FALLS, SD -
A major early spring storm is underway in KELOLAND this morning with some locations receiving a foot of snow overnight. We’ve had viewers in Timber Lake report a foot as of 4am, and also 12” has been reported in the Kadoka area. Winner is reporting over 6” and the snow is moving east toward the James River valley.
Winter storm warnings remain in effect for Aberdeen, Pierre, Chamberlain, and Winner today…areas where at least 6” of snow will fall. Winter weather advisories are in effect farther east including Mitchell, Watertown, and Brookings. It will be in the 30s today in all areas East River, with lower 40s in the west. Winds will be strong out of the northeast and east at 15-30mph.
We are expecting some snow to mix in with the rain late this afternoon and this evening in Sioux Falls, perhaps enough snow to coat the grass. The precipitation will quickly taper off overnight, leaving skies partly cloudy on Saturday.
The weekend and much of the forecast remains cooler than normal with highs mainly in the 40s. Another storm system will affect KELOLAND on Monday and Tuesday with areas of showers mixed with snow. It might try to get back closer to normal by next Thursday.
Stay tuned for updates through the day!
