A warmer day is ahead in KELOLAND with highs reaching 38 on Wednesday in Sioux Falls; Aberdeen will be near 30, 44 in Pierre and upper 40s in Rapid City. Enjoy it because the extended forecast will be much cooler for several days.
Also, a batch of snow and sleet will be in forecast Wednesday night and early Thursday. While this system doesn’t look overly heavy, a slick coating of snow and sleet up to two inches will make roads slippery Thursday morning in many areas. Stay tuned for updates through the day.
The air behind this latest system will be colder and we now transitioning into a prolonged period of below normal temperatures will little chance of a break for several days. What does that mean? Highs will likely stay in the teens above zero for several days East River, with a few 20s at times. Even Rapid City and Pierre will be in the 20s the next several days. Because the cold air stays locked in place, this may keep the main storm track to our south for now. Stay tuned.
