Storm Center Update- Wednesday AM

We are starting the day chilly with morning lows in the 20s in many areas.  However, temperatures will quickly warm and the dry air will give us more fire weather concerns this afternoon.

A red flag warning has been issued for Sioux Falls, Watertown, Aberdeen, Mitchell, and Mobridge for the afternoon.  Temperatures on the Sioux Falls planner are projected to be in the lower 50s at noon and 60 at 5pm with southwest winds.

I’m sure many of you are wondering about the chance of rain for the weekend.  Here’s a look at the storm system developing now off the coast of California…the first one we’ve had in that areas in a long time.

The jet stream over our area is still from the northwest, which has been bringing us shots of cooler, Canadian air.  This low over the desert SW will change this as it approaches KELOLAND by Friday.

By Friday night and Saturday AM, showers and thunderstorms will develop south of KELOLAND and move north.  The majority of the rain is forecast south of I-90 with this first batch.

As the storm system moves into KELOLAND Saturday, there will be a break in the rain with another chance of redeveloping storms in IA during the afternoon, some of which could be severe. 

The storm prediction center has issued on outlook for severe storms in that area for Saturday, something to watch as we get closer to the weekend. 

Rain fall potential looks best in IA and MN, but much of eastern SD will likely receive rain as well.  Sioux Falls would currently be line for about .50”.
