Storm Center Update - Weekend Snow Storm

Another round of winter weather is on the way.  This one will mainly affect northern KELOLAND this afternoon through Sunday.  Winter Storm Warnings are posted in northern and northeast KELOLAND for this afternoon and tonight.  As the system leaves, strong northwest winds will blow at 25-40 mph late tonight and Sunday to produced blizzard conditions in north central and northeast South Dakota.  Use caution with travel plains in northern KELOLAND this weekend.

Snow totals for today and tonight will range between 2-6" (some higher amounts in the Sisseton Hills) in the Winter Storm Warning areas (red).  The Winter Weather Advisories (blue) will have 1-3".

 

Blizzard Warnings are out for north central and northeast KELOLAND tomorrow.  Strong northwest winds of 25-40 mph will begin late tonight and last through Sunday.  This will eventually lead to reduced visibilities to near zero at times.  Use caution when spending any time outdoors in northern KELOLAND on Sunday.  Additional snow amounts will stay less than two inches.

 

Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for today and tonight in the Northern Black Hills, northwest SD, and north central SD.  1-3" will be common in these areas (isolated 4" possible).  The Black Hills will get 3-6" by Sunday morning.

 

FutureScan has snow starting this afternoon in eastern KELOLAND.

 

The snow will move east during the evening with heavy snow at times in northeast South Dakota.

 

Strong northwest winds late tonight and Sunday will create Blizzard conditions in north central and northeast South Dakota.  Expect near zero visibility at times.  Any new snow that falls will stay less than two inches. 

 

Snow amounts of 3-6" will be common in northeast South Dakota.  Some isolated areas will get more than six, just west of Aberdeen and the Sisston Hills (though the model is not showing this).
