Only very light snowflakes are falling at this time, after light snow overnight and this morning. Two-day totals averaged 1-3?, though places like Worthington, Flandreau, DeSmet, and Brookings finished with 2-4? total over the past two days.
There may be some lingering flurries in western South Dakota overnight, though clouds are expected to break up. The thin coat of fresh snow will allow serious cooling. We?re forecasting -17 tonight in Sioux Falls, and -25 in Aberdeen. Even western South Dakota will struggle to escape single digits.
Tomorrow we?ll see more sunshine than today, but it will still be cold. With a light wind, we?re forecasting that much of eastern South Dakota will remain below zero ? while Rapid City will seem like a different world with a high of 36.
Friday is our warm day, with a brisk south wind pushing temperatures across the region to the upper 20s and 30s. Rapid City could hit 50.
Then the wind changes directions for the weekend. Saturday will bring teens back into the region.
The coldest air of the season (so far) comes in Sunday night and Monday. Monday morning will see highs in the teens and 20s below zero East River. Forecast HIGHS on Monday: 10 below zero for Sioux Falls and -12 in Aberdeen.
