Storm Center Update - Wednesday PM

November 21, 2012, 2:41 PM by Scot Mundt

Skies will main mostly clear this evening and tonight in central and eastern KELOLAND, but clouds will thicken in western South Dakota with a slight chance for a light rain or light snow shower.  Winds will increase in western South Dakota as a cold front moves through later tonight.  Northwest winds of twenty to thirty-five miles per hour will be common tonight in the west with occasional gusts to forty.

Everyone will have strong winds and cooler temperatures on Thanksgiving.  Wind speeds of thirty to fifty miles per hour will be common in western South Dakota with speeds of twenty to thirty-five miles per hour in the east.  The strong winds will allow for cooler temperatures with highs in the forties and fifties.  Along with the cooler air, northeast KELOLAND will have a chance (thirty percent) for light rain and/or light snow.

Friday will be cold and breezy in central and eastern South Dakota with highs only in the twenties and thirties.  Western South Dakota will be a little warmer that day with highs in the forties and fifties.  Slightly warmer air will move east on Saturday with highs returning to the low forties.  The cold air will return on Sunday with highs in the thirties in the east, forties in the central and west.

Western South Dakota will have a chance for snow starting Sunday night and lasting into Monday.  This will have to be watched, as accumulating snow seems to be likely.  The best chance for the snow will be in Rapid City and the Hills.
