Storm Center Update - Tuesday PM

December 11, 2012, 2:45 PM by Scot Mundt

Many in KELOLAND will have above average temperatures for the rest of the work week.  The only exceptions will be in eastern and northeast KELOLAND where the thick snow will cause cooler temperatures.  Temperatures will range from the upper twenties and low thirties over the thick snow pack (Aberdeen, Brookings, and Watertown), to the middle thirties and forties (Sioux Falls, Pierre, Rapid City) where there is little to no snow.

Southeast KELOLAND has the best chance for precipitation this weekend.  We’ll continue to watch a storm system come in from the southwest as the week goes on.  The timing for this is Saturday, with the European a little farther north than the American model.  Right now, the American model is giving northwest Iowa a chance for a wintry mix while the European model moves the chance as far north as Brookings to Madison, SD.  Both models are not giving high amounts of moisture, but it doesn’t take much to create any travel problems.  We’ll continue to watch this as new data comes in.
