Storm Center Update - Tuesday AM
July 13, 2010, 8:40 AM
Thunderstorms are moving along the North Dakota border this Tuesday morning and more activity is expected to develop later Tuesday.
There is a risk of severe weather in northeastern KELOLAND with storms containing large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes.
Farther south, there will be a slight chance of thunderstorms toward Sioux Falls by this evening, but the atmosphere will remain capped much of the day. The highest risk will be after 4 p.m. in northeastern South Dakota and we will be sending our storm chasers in the field this afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 80s to near 90 in many areas west of Sioux Falls with breezy south winds at 15-30 mph, with slightly cooler air in the mid 80s in Minnesota and Iowa. Rapid City will also be a bit cooler with highs in the mid 80s and north winds of 15-30 mph.
Scattered thunderstorms will remain possible overnight, especially in northeastern KELOLAND. The mid levels of the atmosphere will remain pretty warm, reducing the chances of widespread rainfall as a cold front moves east.
Thunderstorms could also develop tomorrow in southeastern KELOLAND, with the highest chance in northwestern Iowa. Winds will turn to the northwest during the day it will be cooler in most areas.
