Storm Center Update - Thursday PM

December 27, 2012, 3:13 PM by Scot Mundt

Snow will continue to fly through the evening and into tonight in southeast KELOLAND.  Total amounts will range from two to four inches in southeast South Dakota, northwest Iowa, and southwest Minnesota with isolated areas up to five.  The best locations to receive five inches will be from southern Charles Mix County and east into northwest Iowa.  It includes Wagner, Yankton, Vermillion, and Sioux Center.  Areas north of Interstate 90 will receive about one to three inches (Huron had 1” through 11am, Brookings 1.3” as of 2pm).  Use caution when travelling.  Lows tonight will fall to the single digits and lower teens.

Light snow will be scattered in eastern KELOLAND on Friday morning with a lot of the snow east of Interstate 29.  Clouds will slowly decrease as the day goes on with better chances for sun later in the day in eastern KELOLAND.  Temperatures will remain cold with highs only in the teens in eastern KELOLAND, twenties in the central, and thirties in the west.  Once this system leaves, expect cold but dry conditions for the weekend.  Highs for Saturday will range from fifteen in Sioux Falls to thirty-two in Rapid City.  Some areas will be a little colder on Sunday with highs in the twenties for Rapid City.

The dry and cold temperatures will remain through next week with New Years Eve and New Years Day having highs in the teens in eastern South Dakota to the twenties in the central and west.  Overnight lows will fall to the single digits above and below zero.
