Storm Center Update - Thursday PM

December 6, 2012, 2:14 PM by Scot Mundt

Clouds will remain thick through the evening and tonight.  Along with the clouds, snow will develop in western South Dakota and move east.  Snow will greet many in central South Dakota by sunrise.  The snow will continue to move east into eastern KELOLAND during the late morning and early afternoon.  Much of the snow will be out of KELOLAND Friday evening.  We’re still looking at two to three inches from Highway 14 south to Interstate 90.  Areas in and just east of Pierre have a chance to receive a little more, on the order of three to four inches.  South of Interstate 90 and north of Highway 14 will see a trace to an inch.  The Hills of western South Dakota will receive two to three inches.  Winds won’t be a problem with the snow as they’ll be on the order of five to fifteen miles per hour.

Saturday will be mostly dry; another system will bring a round of light snow in northern and northeast KELOLAND.  This will move southeast Saturday night to give southeast KELOLAND a chance for snow.  A couple inches will be possible out of this one, mainly east of Interstate 29.

While temperatures will be close to or just above average for Friday, the temperatures will be below average for the weekend.  Highs on Saturday and Sunday will be in the twenties.  It will be even colder on Monday with highs only in the teens in northern KELOLAND.
