Storm Center Update - Thursday PM
June 17, 2010, 2:37 PM
by Tony Barlow
A volatile situation is possible this afternoon in portions of far east KELOLAND this afternoon. A dry line is currently pushing through far eastern South Dakota, storms are expected to fire on this boundary later this afternoon into the evening hours. Initial storms will have a strong possibility of quickly becoming severe. In the early stages storms may produce tornadoes and very large hail. As the storms evolve we will look for more of a large hail and straight line wind threat into western and central Minnesota. We will also see a threat of heavy rainfall especially into northwest Iowa. The best threat for tornadoes and large hail will be north of I-90 in southwest Minnesota. The storms will quickly move out this evening and we should end up with a pretty quiet evening and overnight.
Your Friday is looking quiet but more showers and storms will become possible for the coming weekend and into next week. The best threat of storms this weekend will be overnight Saturday with more scattered activity on Sunday.
Keep a close eye on the weather this afternoon and stay tuned to KELO-TV and KELOLAND.com for the latest.
