Storm Center Update - Sunday PM

January 6, 2013, 6:38 PM by Ben Cathey

For many in the east tonight, it will take a while to really get chilly.  The reason: stronger winds and more clouds are starting to emerge east of the James River.  Both will be prominent at elevation and I think many of us will actually get a little warmer before midnight.

For most others, we’re looking at a quiet night.  Flurries are still possible in north-central South Dakota but are looking less likely.

A few clouds will move back in tomorrow but we’ll still get an opportunity to melt some snow.  Changes come on Tuesday.  Winds will be much breezier and another system will track from Montana and mostly through North Dakota.  Snow or even wintry mix is possible around midnight Monday into Tuesday in the NW Black Hills.  There is a slight chance of snow in the far northern parts of South Dakota through Tuesday morning.

Wednesday will be the warmest day of the coming week but more big changes arrive quickly.  By Thursday we’ll get some more wind and possibly even some snow in SE KELOLAND.  Most other areas are just looking at wind, though.  The larger system for us will come late Friday and will last for much of the weekend.  The past few computer models have been all over the place for moisture amounts but we’ve kept snow chances in for most nonetheless.
