Storm Center Update - Sunday AM

May 18, 2014, 5:32 AM by Grant Smith

Today, we’ll see clouds building throughout the day. Breezy southerly winds at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 to 35 and afternoon high temperatures in the low to mid 70s. Showers and thunderstorms will move into the area, starting out west, in the evening hours.

Then as we go into the overnight hours, the showers and thunderstorms will move eastward. Rapid City area looks to see the rain mainly before 2AM, Pierre and central KELOLAND will see rain mainly after 1AM. Aberdeen looks to see rain mainly after 2AM and Sioux Falls region after 3AM. Eastern KELOLAND has a chance for a few thunderstorms to get strong enough for a severe weather, main concern is hail and high winds. Overnight lows bottoming out in the mid-50s.

For Monday, Rapid City could see some more showers develop in the afternoon hours. Eastern KELOLAND will see scattered showers and thunderstorms lasting until Monday evening. By then, the system will be far enough east that the radar should clear out. Monday’s highs back in the 70s.

The rest of the week will be filled with an unsettled setup. Weak low pressure will get caught on the Kansas/Colorado border causing on and off brief showers here in KELOLAND. High temperatures still in the 60s.
