Storm Center Update - Sunday AM

January 13, 2013, 8:22 AM by Ben Cathey

Winds remain brisk in eastern KELOLAND this morning, which is leading to brutally cold wind chills.  We are also seeing limited flurries in portions of SW South Dakota.  Though light snow is possible in the far west and atop Buffalo Ridge today, the chances are slim.
Skies will be variably cloudy today, much like yesterday.  Expect periods of sun along with times of nearly overcast skies.  Into this evening, the winds shouldn’t be too big of an issue.  We will still be cold, though, with many at or below zero.
Clouds will return West River tomorrow and we will only be a touch warmer.  Still, most of the day will be spent in the single digits and lower teens.  Light snow is still possible in the western Black Hills.
A warming trend is on the way from Tuesday through Thursday.  A new storm system will start out in the Hills and could bring some lighter snows.  Right now, we are really lacking in moisture, but that could change.  This system will then head towards our northern counties late in the day Tuesday and into early Wednesday.  The winds aloft will make this a fast-moving storm, would could sap more moisture totals.
Wednesday looks to be the warmest day of the workweek but signs point to only a gradual cooling trend late week.  That means we’ll stay above average heading into next weekend.
