Storm Center Update - Sunday AM

December 23, 2012, 8:30 AM by Ben Cathey

Cold air continues to drift south into KELOLAND as high pressure sits in Canada.  We’ll be tracking two snow-makers through Tuesday for some in our area.

Flurries are already moving into NW South Dakota.  This will retreat back to the north for most of the day.  By this evening, light snow could be moving into Aberdeen and the far NE.  We don’t expect big accumulations, but isolated spots could pick up two or so inches.  This will eventually push into Minnesota by tomorrow morning.  Flurries or even a dusting is possible in Sioux Falls tonight, just based on the cloud cover on hand.

The next system comes later tomorrow and into Christmas Day.  This is the best overall chance for a fresh White Christmas.  Most in the Black Hills are in line for 1-4” but the cutoff closer to the Missouri River will be fairly sharp.

Much colder air continues to arrive out of Canada.  Thus far, there has been little to stop it and not much will change through this week.  Tuesday and Wednesday generally look like the coldest days of the coming week.

Another system arrives Thursday into Friday.  There is less agreement by the computer models on this one, except that moisture is lacking for most locations in KELOLAND.
