There’s not much travel going on in western South Dakota this afternoon. We’re still getting tons of pictures to the uShare gallery and they’re showing snow moving into central South Dakota. Many of today’s highs came at midnight and some have been cooling throughout the day. Basically, it was a cold October day but MUCH warmer air offers a reprieve next week.
The core of the large low pressure system is between Brookings and Marshall, MN. That’s where winds are lightest this afternoon and there’s little in the way of moisture. The cloud line on the back edge will continue to push east this evening. Rain will push closer to Sioux Falls and the southeast corner later this evening and into the overnight. It’s still moving at a snail’s pace, though, and could take awhile.
The change-over to slushy mess will continue tonight (northwest of Sioux Falls). We’re not expecting snow in Sioux Falls but, in general, snow isn’t completely done with KELOLAND.
Snow IS all but done in the Hills but leftover wind will kick around snow that’s not stuck to the ground. That will make it look like it’s still snowing.
The cloud line tomorrow will be sharp. Sioux Falls and Aberdeen should see some sunshine tomorrow and Aberdeen will be first. Sioux Falls could see lighter rain showers through the early afternoon but by Monday, things are much improved!
Highs will be in the upper 60s in the east Monday, while the Hills fight to hit the mid-50s. It’s going to take awhile to melt all of the snowfall but highs will get closer to the 60s for the far west by week’s end. Expect plentiful sunshine for the week to come before more clouds arrive late Thursday and into Friday. Friday and Saturday could have additional rainfall and Saturday shows signs of a pretty big cool-down.
