Storm Center Update - Saturday PM

November 10, 2012, 7:16 PM by Ben Cathey

The very strong cold front is pushing through KELOLAND and the leftover warm air will not last much longer.  We have a Winter Weather Advisory lasting through tomorrow morning for snow accumulation and gusting winds.
We’ve received reports of more than 3” of snow for parts of western South Dakota.  Now a line of strong thunderstorms is moving east of the James River.  There have also been reports of  thunder-snow in areas like Winner.  Though the active weather is closing in on Sioux Falls, we expect less total moisture.  Rain should turn to snow, there is less than a quarter inch of moisture.  This system will quickly move off to the northeast through the overnight.  Rapid City and the west will see somewhat milder conditions tomorrow but it will still be very cold for November.  Winds will keep lashing our area through most of tomorrow.  That will keep the wind chill down in the teens.  The storm system will eventually leave some parts of our area with enough snow to cause travel issues, especially with the holiday coming up tomorrow.
The sun will come back out later in the day but that won’t warm us up all that much.
Monday morning looks to be very chilly with mostly clearing skies.  The middle of the week actually looks good.  Temperatures will again be closer to average and we’ll warm up through the end of the workweek.
