Storm Center Update - Saturday AM

November 24, 2012, 7:41 AM by Ben Cathey

We’ll boost the high temperatures today but will have more clouds to contend with.  The warmest air will be in western South Dakota but this will only last for one day.  In the east, the warm-up will not be quite as dramatic but we’ll still be pleasant for late November.  We could see a few late-day sprinkles in far NW South Dakota today.
This evening will be fairly mild.  There is a chance for the isolated snow showers to begin in the Black Hills.  The better chance for that is after dawn tomorrow and through the day.  Initially, the system will stay confined to the far SW, including Rapid City and the Black Hills.  By late tomorrow the storm will spread eastwards and into Nebraska.  That means Pierre could get some lighter snow and a large part of Nebraska could also get snow.  As for accumulation, Pierre is likely to see less than an inch (but if the storm pulls east a little bit more, totals could bump up).  The plains in SW South Dakota are looking at 2-3” if dry air doesn’t rob moisture as the storm starts to move in.  The Black Hills could see more than four inches of snow, with higher amounts likely at elevation.
Monday will be colder across KELOLAND.  Drier northern air pushes back into our region.  High pressure builds back in later in the week and we will be slightly warmer from that point onwards.
