Storm Center Update - Monday PM

The weather will be changing as early as Monday night as a storm system approaches from the west.  Things will start as rain in western South Dakota this evening and then switch to snow overnight.  The snow will be heavy at times in the Hills. 

Winter Storm Warnings are out for the Hills; expect six to twelve inches worth of snow.  The snow will move into central, eastern and northeast KELOLAND late tonight, toward sunrise.  The snow will also be heavy at times in central and northeast KELOLAND.  Winter Storm Watches are out for eastern and northeast KELOLAND for tonight and tomorrow.  This is an area that can receive three to seven inches of snow.  Amounts in central and southeast KELOLAND will not be as much, with one to three inches being common.  

Winds will also be a problem with speeds of 30 to 60 miles per hour in western South Dakota starting as early as tonight.  Strong winds will slowly move into central and eastern KELOLAND late tonight and into tomorrow.  The winds will be responsible for blowing snow and reduced visibilities.  Use caution when traveling during the snow.  Temperatures will slowly fall during the day as those north winds kick in.

The snow will be out of the area on Wednesday, but temperatures will remain below average with highs in the 30s and 40s.  Winds will not be as strong on Wednesday.

Thursday is looking like a warm day with highs near 50, but cooler air will return on Friday.  There’s also a slight chance for rain on Friday.  The cool air will stay for the weekend with highs in the 30s to near 40.
